BITS & BOBS

FOR TEACHERS OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN

TELL ME MORE ...

A DVD resource created by Emma Rickards and Julia Mahoney

In 2009 Emma spoke about her application of the design process to senior students in over 30 schools throughout Melbourne and Geelong. The popularity of these presentations prompted her to consider the creation of a professional practice resource accessible to a broader audience and tailored specifically to the VCE curriculum. Here is the result!

A logo for Caroline follows the creation of an identity, letterhead and business card for a newly established garden design and consultation service. The design process - from establishment of the brief through to the production of each final presentation - is described and explored in detail using subject-specific terms and kid-friendly language. Commentary is provided by both designer and client, with key stages from research to printing thoroughly illustrated.

This resource has been made specifically to assist middle-school and senior Visual Communication students in their understanding of the design process and its application in professional practice. A DVD movie is accompanied by teacher's notes (revised to address changes to VCE Visual Communication Design in 2013) together with visual resource material for students.
